Singer Featherweight 221 or 222 Sewing Machines
Trying to decide between the Singer Featherweight 221 or 222 sewing machines? Well hopefully this article will give you more details on the two sewing machines and help you make your choice. First we will start off with the Singer Featherweight 221 sewing machine.
The Singer Featherweight 221 is a rotary hook sewing machine with an aluminum bed, machine arm, and a swing up bed extension. The machine itself weighs around 11 pounds or so. It has a beautiful shiny black finish and with gold decals in the bed. It is a very well built machine that sews a beautiful straight stitch line. Pride and workmanship was the main goal in building these machines unlike today’s goals, which is what makes this such a heavy duty excellent sewing machine. They also came out with a Crinkle Featherweight 221, but this was usually special ordered. It came with a dim black finish on it and had three parallel grooves inside the bed instead of the usual gold decals.
The Singer Featherweight 222 is more rare than the 221 and is more sought after. This model is the free arm version of the Featherweight. By removing just one screw you can take the bed off. The feed dogs can also be dropped by using the lever in the front of the machine. This machine also sews a beautiful straight stitch. Both these models are great sewing machines, but I think what makes this model stand out more than the 221 is that it is a free arm version.
I hope this article gave you some insight on whether to look for a Singer Featherweight 221 or 222 sewing machines. Remember, they are both great machines to own and will both create a beautiful straight stitch.
