Available as both an electric and treadle machine the antique Damascus electric sewing machine was a popular model and one that looks great in any home today.  These machines with proper care can last a life time and listed below are some tips to help keep your machine looking and working great.

If you have an antique sewing machine no matter what make or model you will need to use a good sewing machine lubricant and apply this where every moving part of the machine rubs together making sure not to forger the lower parts and the treadle mechanism.  If your antique sewing machine is really dirty you can use some kerosene to help to clean it out.  Remember you will need to lubricate your antique sewing machine regularly especially if you intend using it. 

The tension on your sewing machine will also need to be cared for as this can cause problems in antique sewing machines.  The tension adjustment on these machines is normally a thumbscrew on the head of the machine and this can be tightened or loosened depending on the stitching produced.

There are a number of other problems that can occur with antique sewing machines and these can include the breaking of the upper thread if the tension is too tight, the breaking of the lower thread if the lower tension is too tight and puckering of your material if there is too much tension in both threads.
